The new art exhibitions in Mexico City opened between the last week of August and the first week of September, welcoming the fall season. Here are eight shows you shouldn’t miss this month in the city.

 

 

‘Teópolis’ of Renata Petersen at PequodCo.

The artist from Guadalajara, Jalisco presents her first solo show at PequodCo., transforming the gallery floor with a new piece. Her installation features ceramic and blown-glass works composed of multiple architectural elements. “Renata Petersen’s proposal prescribes for religious manifestations the desacralization they deserve, revealing them in part as mere pop culture.” @pequodco@renatapetersen
 
 

‘Señalética del derrumbe’ of Guadalupe Salgado at Guadalajara 90210

Salgado’s exhibition stems from drawings “that rise up to become sculptures, using ceramics, construction wood, and textiles.” The Mexico City–based artist’s works at Guadalajara90210 focus on situations on the verge of collapse and explore these tensions through the use of signage. @guadalatas  @guadalajara90210

 

 

‘Circo erótico. Serguéi Eisenstein: Dibujos’ at kurimanzutto

From September 10 until October 8th

 

Damián Ortega’s project based on the drawings of Sergei Mikhailovich Eisenstein—the film director and pioneer in the theory and practice of montage—opens to the public on Saturday the 10th. Eisenstein’s erotic drawings are described as “explorations of sexuality and its profound impact on individual consciousness during the era of the Bolsheviks’ rise to power.”. @kurimanzutto

 
 

‘Meet Me At the Puppet Motel’ of Beth Frey at Pamela Weissenberg

‘Paisajes’ of Ana Segovia at Galería Karen Huber

The painter’s third solo show at Karen Huber Gallery is part of the upcoming GAMA Week, a collaborative event among galleries taking place from September 22 to 25. ‘Shake your body’ and ‘Algo Público’ at LAGOALGO

Curated by Jérôme Sans, the group exhibition at the cultural center LagoAlgo opened featuring works by Pia Camil, Rafael Domenech, Andreas Angelidakis, Steffan Brüggemann, :mentalKLINIK, Alicia Framis, and Vivian Caccuri. In parallel, Algo Público, designed by Fabien Cappello, is an outdoor space that, through urban furniture, invites all visitors to linger, play, and explore alternative ways of relating to one another. ‘Nubada’ of Alejandra Venegas at Proyectos Monclova

Mexican artist Alejandra Venegas opens her first solo show at Monclova’s space in Polanco, presenting a series of hand-painted wooden reliefs. Venegas works with walnut, red cedar, and xiloxochitl, among other woods, to create connections between painting and sculpture. @_monclova  @ven.geff

 

 

‘Dispositivos para la memoria’ of Przemek Pyszczek at Campeche

Polish artist Przemek Pyszczek opens his first solo show in Mexico at Campeche gallery, intervening the space with a mural. “In Mexico, colorful murals and old-school graphics prevail, as well as playgrounds in public parks.
