The works by Yeni Mao, Fig. 36.5 Skinwalker and Fig. 44.3 You and Me Both, are part of the Jumex Collection and are on view through February 8, 2026 in the exhibition Works from the Jumex Collection, which includes recent acquisitions and pieces that have not previously been presented at the Museum.
"Yeni Mao works in sculpture, combining references to the body with those of architecture, particularly through construction. The tensions between containment, domination, order, and the body’s visceral nature are expressed in fetishistic forms and material juxtapositions. Her work is also imbued with personal narratives, articulated through tactile associations that emerge in the very process of making the sculptures, produced in her studio through a direct engagement with materials and processes. These two pieces are examples of this approach. The railing in Fig. 36.5, Skinwalker suggests functionality, yet it comes alive through the swollen snakeskin that partially covers its tubular form."
