Jou Morales (b. 1990, Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico) has a BA in Plastic and Visual Arts at the Universidad Autónoma “Benito Juárez” of Oaxaca (2011 -2015) and the and the Clinics for the Specialization in Contemporary Art for Oaxaca (CEACO) at the Curtiduría Espacio Contemporáneo (2015- 2016). He is co-founder and member of YOPE projects space, space dedicated to the diffusion of local, national and international contemporary art, with which he has been awarded the PAC/ Patronato de Arte Contemporáneo (2019), FONDO DE APOYO PAC / COVID - 2019 / Patronato de Arte Contemporáneo (2019).COVID - 2019 / Patronato de Arte Contemporáneo (2020) and Curarte es Guelaguetza / Secretaría de Cultura from the Mexican Government and the Secretary of Culture and Art of Oaxaca (2020).
He has exhibited his work in Musée International des Arts Modestes (MIAM) / UK, FRICHE LA BELLE DE MAI / UK, Kurimanzutto Gallery/ CDMX, Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca (IAGO) / OAX, among others. In 2020 and 2023 receives the grant for Young Creators of the Sistema de Apoyos a la Creación y Proyectos Culturales (SACPC), formerly FONCA.
His work is a mixture of imaginaries, references, sounds, strident and hypnotic colors of contemporary culture that are posed as interpretations and/or presage of multiple events where amorphous beings and events where amorphous beings rise, self-construct, palpitate, mutate and collapse, carrying the weight of their history as a transversal narrative of our historicity.
