• In the beginning Alicia Ayanegui was a painter of light; messy beds, sofas, tables. Spaces which we occupy in our daily life.

With time, she adopted darkness. Harnessing dustpans, plants and chairs, she guided us through a stroll in dim light. Her loose brushstroke turned into a perpetual and emotional reminder of her own experiences. Her paintings have become an elevation of the seemingly irrelevant. Objects that accompany her and arise her curiosity for the simplest of things. Through her work, she shares a vision charged with history and the longing that these items carry.

In Entre Vítreo, the artist presents a series of paintings which converge her appreciation for object and gesture. An evolution can be observed in the work, a step towards the simplification of forms. However, it seems to be a conversation with her past and her records on light.

She addresses crystal, a material which opens with a delta of interpretations: while secure, it is resistant, long-lived and durable (even more than our own life); in the accident, it is fragile and brittle; a potentially sharp and injurious puncture (no matter how small the fragment may be).

Crystal serves as a suggestion of the vulnerability of life; of possessions, ideas, memories and loved ones. All with an apparent integrity that, like glass, requires an awareness of fragility in the face of the rigor that existence implies.

Through subtle lines carefully worked, Alicia suggests contours, volumes, distortions, transparencies and refractions that guide the viewer through each painting, and suggest the possibility of completing spaces of abstraction. The work invites to observe closely and attentively; to let the fragile and violent material transport viewers to a moment of silence and clarity.
